about my personal experience with nofap and the sad reason for why I believe a lot of men’s lives are actually worse because of it but make sure you watch until the end because I’m going to break down the actual techniques that I found that actually work in helping you succeed with nofap okay so from 17 to 21 I struggled with you know what and probably just like you I spent countless hours online trying to find a solution I researched everything how to get my mind off of it how to not relapse how to have more self-control but no matter what I tried nothing actually seemed to work at least not for more than a month anyway one day I discovered the lovely world of nofap I discovered the community and finally I was saved they had the tips that I needed the resources they had people with experience to help lead me through this trying time or so I thought but after getting into the actual nofap Community diving into the YouTube videos hearing from the nofap experts I realized that literally every single person was exactly like me and it just felt like all of us together were stuck in this vicious cycle and still once again nobody had the answers let me know if this sounds familiar you get on a streak you’re feeling good you got a handful of days behind you if you’re feeling great but then one day you do something dumb you slip up then out of nowhere your self-confidence tanks you feel like garbage and because you feel like garbage you relapse again because hey I already messed up why not mess up again does that sound familiar at all I think it probably does okay so here’s why I believe that nofap is actually making the lives of a lot of people worse it’s making it worse because of the strategy that it is proposing the name itself is literally no fap which means don’t fap here’s the issue with it it’s negative no is literally in the title the problem with a strategy that’s literally called nofap is that it is only telling you what you can’t do and humans historically have never done well with that when Adam and Eve were in the garden and God said hey you can eat everything except for that what happened they ate from that tree when your mom told you that you can’t have a cookie out of the cookie jar no cookie as soon as she turned her back what did you do and when Congress told Hillary she can’t erase her private emails what happened okay you get the picture maybe I’m getting carried away the issue that I have with nofap and the reason I believe it’s hurting a lot of people’s lives is because it’s putting so much attention on something and all it’s saying is no humans do not like hearing no humans like hearing yes so ultimately the problem with nofap is that it says no to this area of life but it doesn’t offer any type of viable alternative it just says no no Fab so then this creates an epidemic of men just feeling weak and pathetic because they believe that willpower is enough to not fap just have some strong willpower and you’ll be okay but truthfully I don’t think anyone actually has enough willpower to just not fap and let me explain I believe that people who succeed at nofap are actually the people who see it as instead of fat so here’s what I mean in the book Atomic habits on page 92 also if you have not read Atomic habits yet I highly highly highly recommend that you do so so there will be a link below so you can get your own copy so on page 92 Atomic habits breaks down how to break a bad habit it says the idea that a little bit of discipline would solve all our problems is deeply embedded in our culture Recent research however shows something different when scientists analyze people who appear to have tremendous self-control it turns out that those individuals aren’t all that different from those who are struggling instead disciplined people are better at strong structure in their lives in a way that does not require heroic willpower and self-control in other words they spend less time in tempting situations that piece right there from Atomic habits fully engulfs my issue with nofap because it’s not about willpower I believe that nofap completely preaches that you just need heroic willpower you just need to power through hey man just don’t do it but truthfully I believe are being sold a lie if we actually believe that that is how you can beat temptation as atomic habits mentions the people who seem to have more willpower or self-control whatever don’t tend to actually have more measurable self-controller willpower instead they just spend less time in tempting environments they are better at avoiding the situations where they need willpower and self-control so to sum up this section I believe nofap really just sets men up for failure and to feel like a failure because it’s preaching to them a strategy that really doesn’t work and has never worked in all of humanity just don’t do it nofap now to go back to what I said in the beginning this is why I think it’s important to instead of seeing it as nofap see it as instead of FAP because it can’t just be no you have to have an alternative so how have I done this in my own life let’s talk about what works and what doesn’t okay right off the bat if you’re trying to avoid caving into temptation I think the first thing you need to do is break down what happens when you typically cave into temptation and you need to get specific I think we need to develop a deeper understanding of what’s actually happening when we fail because we see failure as the problem but there’s actually a bunch of little problems that led up to this happening and we need to figure out what these things are to stop this from happening so mentally right now go back to the last time you failed and ask yourself these questions where was I what was I feeling what time of day was it and what was the lie in my head that I was believing you need to fully break down what got you to failing in the first place then from here we can reverse engineer because if we can avoid the small things that are leading up to failing we can avoid failing altogether so here’s how it looked in my own life so for me I found that the times that I was most likely to fail were late at night when I’m on my phone laying in my bed when I’m by myself when my door is closed and when I’m just tired also I would typically be on social media when I’d get the urge and that’s important so this is how specific you need to get if you want to take this thing head-on you need to be able to Target every single variable so that’s exactly what I did I broke down each issue that helped lead to me failing and tried to make sure that these things right here don’t happen anymore so specifically what I did is being tired is totally fine but I found out that laying down with my phone was not helping anyone so I made a rule that I will no longer lay on my bed while holding my phone I know it sounds extreme but if you actually want to kick this thing you need to be extreme another rule I made is that I started charging my phone outside of my room so if my phone was low on battery if I needed to charge it I had to get out of my room and go out and be where people were or at least in a more public space on top of that I made a screen time password for Safari and YouTube so if for some reason if I didn’t have the self-control to not lay down with my phone either way I only had five minutes before the screen time password would lock me out and then finally I erased all social media I don’t keep social media apps on my phone if I don’t have to for work and if you haven’t done this yet I just highly highly highly suggest that you do those apps are literally built for you to be a slave so finally by doing all these different things I was able to fully deconstruct the environment that was optimal for failing so now I didn’t have to rely on self-control so much because my living environment was not one that made falling to Temptation easy so after all these changes guess what happened I still failed sometimes I am in fact human but it was honestly rare and it did not happen very often at all also Community is literally
