Retranscription des paroles de la vidéo: before we get in to talking about the research breakthroughs because we got some good research articles that have kind of transformed my thought process on training over the last couple weeks we’re gonna get into that but first I want to talk about a another book that I’ve been reading and this is actually I’m rereading this book because I think it’s the best book on mental training ever it’s called the inner game of tennis so the inner game of tennis basically is about self one verse self – so every athlete every person has two versions of themselves so self one is that analytical side so they think through things if they’re not making a shot it’s because their elbow is not in or they’re not following through they always think there’s some sort of correction so we can call that the conscious side and then there’s that self – which is more of that subconscious side where when you’re in that zone when you’re in that flow and you’re just killing and you have no idea what you’re doing that’s self – obviously the best athletes in the world are self – athletes also why a lot of the best players in the world don’t become great trainers because a lot of times they’re so self – that they have no idea what they’re actually doing on the court so I’ve talked to some of our players and I’ll ask them questions like hey how do you do this and they’ll be like mmm I don’t know and that’s that’s the correct answer a lot of times for the best players the best shooters it’s like hey man what are you doing with your wrist how are you falling through and they’re like yeah I have no idea I just shoot to make whereas the the bad shooters are breaking it down to a science of exactly how they flick the wrist so that’s self one verse self – like a lot of these best players are just self – now it’s okay to have to be in tune with that self one and here and there make corrections but too many athletes I see you get carried away with that self one always thinking that there’s some sort of correction and you take away from that self – and we never become a killer you gotta understand to be alive just to breathe you got to understand how many billions of things have to go right at the right time billions and billions of processes within the body are going right at the right times to make a shot to jump high to do any athletic skill do you understand how much has to go into that not only the billions of things at the cellular level but the timing of the joints the fluidity the energy transfer all of this stuff this can only be controlled by self – the only way that you can become a great great shooter or jump really really high is doing it at that subconscious level because you cannot consciously control timing that’s one thing that you cannot do just like you can’t like wish yourself to being a good dancer you can’t just be like I’m gonna you can’t think through steps and then all of a sudden get that fluidity alright that has to come from self – so the point that I’m trying to make is when we start becoming self one and we start making too many Corrections we are showing ourselves that we don’t trust self – we have a lack of trust in self – and then self one starts to take over now fluidity is all killed timing is all killed so anytime that I give you guys mechanics advice shooting or jumping whatever it is you got to understand that we’re trying to make a correction and then we’re trying to get that back to self – it’s not you we’re not saying that hey your self – sucks so you need to become self one dominant what we’re saying is basically I want you to make this correction I want you to rep it out and I want to get get it to that subconscious so that we never have to think about this again and you got to start to trust self – so if you’re in a shooting slump or you’re not making shots one day what do we all do we all go oh I know what I’m doing I’m not tucking my elbow or I’m not getting enough from my legs we always think that there’s some sort of mechanical correction when a lot of the time it’s just us being on that self– one side when we really need to just quiet that self one and Trust self – have you ever been on fire have you ever had days where you made a lot of shots where you were dominant you couldn’t miss then you have the ability to shoot and on that day you found self – but on the other days when you can’t find that same zone it’s because you don’t trust self – and you think that there’s some sort of correction so what Hooper’s do and I do this myself over the last 10 years I’ve done this a lot with my shot I’ll come in I’ll start you know getting up shots I miss and then I’m like mm I got to make a correction I make that correction and maybe it does start falling and then I go okay that’s my new shot and it works for that day and then I come back the next day I try that again oh it doesn’t work mmm I got to make this correction then I make that correction sometimes it starts to go in and then the next day I come in and that same thing doesn’t work and so you’re in this constant cycle of changing your form or you find something on Instagram where a shooting coach is telling you to do something and then you’re you get away from who you are and you become who they want you to be so basically what happens is you get in this cycle of there’s always a correction self oneself one self one when really you need to shut up and you need to trust self too if you’ve ever made shots if you’ve ever been on fire you have the ability to shoot you just got to get in that place mentally to then actually be able to do that consistently so here’s another thing that I’ve taken from this book so far negative judgment of the results of one’s efforts tends to make one try even harder positive evaluation tends to make one try to force oneself into that same pattern on the next shot both positive and negative thinking inhibits spontaneity boom so we all think about like oh I got to get these negative thoughts out of my head I got to get these positive thoughts in my head I got to start complimenting myself whoa there because getting caught up in that negative getting caught up in that positive can be a bad thing so what they’re talking about is when you start over complimenting yourself you start setting this standard and you start trying to replicate that right so if you go make a lot of money you’re all of a sudden in that mindset of I got to do this I got to keep doing what I was doing but what’s going to get you to the next level maybe isn’t what got you to that level so that spontaneity and that ability to just be present a lot of times that’s what’s gonna take you to that next level but when you over compliment yourself sometimes you stay stagnant right so you got to be careful and I’ve implemented this in my training I think when I first started as a trainer I used to give a lot of compliments because I thought that it would get people thinking positive and they would get going and so I tried to take out the negative stuff and every time somebody made a shot it was like yeah good job yes keep going and then I realized oh there is such thing as over complimenting and now I only throw in compliments when they’re absolutely needed or when they’re absolutely necessary but you want to get people to start to be present and not rely on that positive reinforcement or that negative reinforcement so another another funny thing from this book is he kind of talks about trash-talking it talks about the worst way to trash talk is what people do Oh your mom is fat whatever your mom is ugly like that stuff doesn’t work the best thing that you could do for trash-talking is go up to somebody and be like hey how did you hold your follow-through on that shot right because that they had this external focus they’re out of their body their self – and now they’re like hmm thanks for the compliment what I did is I had my elbow up and I followed through I made sure my elbow was up above my eye now they’re inside their body they have an internal focus right so that is a quick way to take somebody out of their zone and get them into that self 1-over thinkers mentality go up to somebody and compliment if they hit a couple shots in a row man great shot did you produce that force from your legs or do you do it more with the upper body and they start going hmm let me think about what I owe ya yeah I do it mostly from the legs now on that next shot they’re thinking internally they’re thinking about that advice that they just gave you now that took them out of that narrow external focus so the more you can be in that narrow external focus the more you can be self – the more you’re internally focused on some sort of correction or anything inside the body the more you are self won so a narrow external focus is basically can you focus on a part of the rim right like can I focus on the back of the rim or everybody’s different can I focus on the front of the rim or two inches above the rim everybody has a different preference but can I lock in on that point every time and then just think about getting it to that spot right just make the shot that’s a narrow external focus or think the arc of the ball like see the arc of the ball through that process watch it going in through your mind or another tip that they give is where where does your body position want to end up so instead of saying hey I got to get my elbow above my eye on follow-through just put it there show it to yourself think about Steve Nash at the free-throw line he would dribble and he would rehearse a shot every time that’s a great way to get to self – so maybe in your warm-ups or whatever get there or maybe if you’re missing some shots at a timeout show yourself what you want and take a vivid image of that so don’t think elbow above the eye just go through that motion and just look at yourself right take notice of where that position is and now you got to go okay self to knows I trust self – you got it from here now you get into a game all of a sudden we’re externally focused we are self – we start hitting shots alright so I want you to keep in mind that yes there’s times where we’re correcting form but we always got to get back to self – long term if we want to be great shooters and I would definitely advise you guys to look into that book the inner game of because I’ve read a lot of sports psychology books and sports psychology books a lot of it is just repeating the same thing over and over and over again with slightly different stories in each one the inner game of tennis is very very different and it’ll change your whole perspective on how you mentally approach the game .

.349 on training over the last couple weeks
.09 we’re gonna get into that but first I
.4 want to talk about a another book that
.58 I’ve been reading and this is actually
.22 I’m rereading this book because I think
.63 it’s the best book on mental training
.55 ever it’s called the inner game of
.099 tennis so the inner game of tennis
.89 basically is about self one verse self –
.66 so every athlete every person has two
.559 versions of themselves so self one is
.73 that analytical side so they think
.469 through things if they’re not making a
.42 shot it’s because their elbow is not in
.03 or they’re not following through they
.71 always think there’s some sort of
.18 correction so we can call that the
.82 conscious side and then there’s that
.829 self – which is more of that
.329 subconscious side where when you’re in
.789 that zone when you’re in that flow and
.07 you’re just killing and you have no idea
.71 what you’re doing that’s self –
.97 obviously the best athletes in the world
.68 are self – athletes also why a lot of
.909 the best players in the world don’t
.619 become great trainers because a lot of
.509 times they’re so self – that they have
.33 no idea what they’re actually doing on
.34 the court so I’ve talked to some of our
.049 players and I’ll ask them questions like
.509 hey how do you do this and they’ll be
.0 like mmm I don’t know and that’s that’s
.84 the correct answer a lot of times for
.479 the best players the best shooters it’s
.49 like hey man what are you doing with
.78 your wrist how are you falling through
.1 and they’re like yeah I have no idea I
.29 just shoot to make whereas the the bad
.049 shooters are breaking it down to a
.759 science of exactly how they flick the
.86 wrist so that’s self one verse self –
.369 like a lot of these best players are
.049 just self – now it’s okay to have to be
.28 in tune with that self one and here and
.409 there make corrections but too many
.29 athletes I see you get carried away with
.899 that self one always thinking that
.879 there’s some sort of correction and you
.77 take away from that self – and we
.99 never become a killer you gotta
.85 understand to be alive just to breathe
.63 you got to understand how many billions
.03 of things have to go right at the right
.52 time billions and billions of processes
.88 within the body are going right at the
.71 right times to make a shot to jump high
.52 to do any athletic skill do you
.5 understand how much has to go into that
.63 not only the billions of things at the
.0 cellular level but the timing of the
.55 joints the fluidity the energy transfer
.13 all of this stuff this can only be
.56 controlled by self – the only way that
.95 you can become a great great shooter or
.43 jump really really high is doing it at
.71 that subconscious level because you
.36 cannot consciously control timing that’s
.51 one thing that you cannot do just like
.7 you can’t like wish yourself to being a
.28 good dancer you can’t just be like I’m
.68 gonna you can’t think through steps and
.75 then all of a sudden get that fluidity
.15 alright that has to come from self – so
.74 the point that I’m trying to make is
.13 when we start becoming self one and we
.26 start making too many Corrections we are
.56 showing ourselves that we don’t trust
.36 self – we have a lack of trust in self –
.69 and then self one starts to take over
.24 now fluidity is all killed timing is all
.08 killed so anytime that I give you guys
.59 mechanics advice shooting or jumping
.45 whatever it is you got to understand
.37 that we’re trying to make a correction
.96 and then we’re trying to get that back
.97 to self – it’s not you we’re not saying
.46 that hey your self – sucks so you need
.01 to become self one dominant what we’re
.11 saying is basically I want you to make
.96 this correction I want you to rep it out
.03 and I want to get get it to that
.59 subconscious so that we never have to
.0 think about this again and you got to
.34 start to trust self – so if you’re in a
.54 shooting slump or you’re not making
.79 shots one day what do we all do we all
.22 go oh I know what I’m doing I’m not
.28 tucking my elbow or I’m not getting
.41 enough from my legs we always think that
.02 there’s some sort of mechanical
.4 correction when a lot of the time
.73 it’s just us being on that self– one
.01 side when we really need to just quiet
.23 that self one and Trust self – have you
.32 ever been on fire have you ever had days
.26 where you made a lot of shots where you
.27 were dominant you couldn’t miss then you
.06 have the ability to shoot and on that
.76 day you found self – but on the other
.73 days when you can’t find that same zone
.16 it’s because you don’t trust self – and
.44 you think that there’s some sort of
.03 correction so what Hooper’s do and I do
.18 this myself over the last 10 years I’ve
.4 done this a lot with my shot I’ll come
.1 in I’ll start you know getting up shots
.52 I miss and then I’m like mm I got to
.25 make a correction I make that correction
.9 and maybe it does start falling and then
.45 I go okay that’s my new shot and it
.73 works for that day and then I come back
.38 the next day I try that again oh it
.48 doesn’t work mmm I got to make this
.64 correction then I make that correction
.55 sometimes it starts to go in and then
.68 the next day I come in and that same
.12 thing doesn’t work and so you’re in this
.38 constant cycle of changing your form or
.35 you find something on Instagram where a
.39 shooting coach is telling you to do
.92 something and then you’re you get away
.93 from who you are and you become who they
.3 want you to be so basically what happens
.9 is you get in this cycle of there’s
.32 always a correction self oneself one
.66 self one when really you need to shut up
.85 and you need to trust self too if you’ve
.94 ever made shots if you’ve ever been on
.62 fire you have the ability to shoot you
.14 just got to get in that place mentally
.39 to then actually be able to do that
.81 consistently so here’s another thing
.06 that I’ve taken from this book so far
.63 negative judgment of the results of
.43 one’s efforts tends to make one try even
.43 harder positive evaluation tends to make
.63 one try to force oneself into that same
.69 pattern on the next shot both positive
.08 and negative thinking inhibits
.75 spontaneity boom so we all think about
.08 like oh I got to get these negative
.54 thoughts out of my head I got to get
.07 these positive thoughts in my head I got
.66 to start complimenting myself whoa there
.08 because getting caught up in that
.939 negative getting caught up in that
.319 positive can be a bad thing so what
.53 they’re talking about is when you start
.87 over complimenting yourself you start
.629 setting this standard and you start
.789 trying to replicate that right so if you
.639 go make a lot of money you’re all of a
.71 sudden in that mindset of I got to do
.02 this I got to keep doing what I was
.27 doing but what’s going to get you to the
.46 next level maybe isn’t what got you to
.009 that level so that spontaneity and that
.189 ability to just be present a lot of
.62 times that’s what’s gonna take you to
.06 that next level but when you over
.129 compliment yourself sometimes you stay
.77 stagnant right so you got to be careful
.86 and I’ve implemented this in my training
.68 I think when I first started as a
.659 trainer I used to give a lot of
.159 compliments because I thought that it
.659 would get people thinking positive and
.46 they would get going and so I tried to
.479 take out the negative stuff and every
.099 time somebody made a shot it was like
.479 yeah good job yes keep going and then I
.779 realized oh there is such thing as over
.449 complimenting and now I only throw in
.18 compliments when they’re absolutely
.279 needed or when they’re absolutely
.139 necessary but you want to get people to
.159 start to be present and not rely on that
.819 positive reinforcement or that negative
.81 reinforcement so another another funny
.949 thing from this book is he kind of talks
.81 about trash-talking it talks about the
.68 worst way to trash talk is what people
.11 do Oh your mom is fat whatever your mom
.02 is ugly like that stuff doesn’t work the
.599 best thing that you could do for
.639 trash-talking is go up to somebody and
.889 be like hey how did you hold your
.319 follow-through on that shot right
.33 because that they had this external
.669 focus they’re out of their body their
.08 self – and now they’re like hmm thanks
.349 for the compliment what I did is I had
.69 my elbow up and I followed through I
.909 made sure my elbow was up above my eye
.74 now they’re inside their body they have
.839 an internal focus right so that is a
.649 quick way to take somebody out of their
.93 zone and get them into that self 1-over
.05 thinkers mentality
.27 go up to somebody and compliment if they
.339 hit a couple shots in a row man great
.649 shot did you produce that force from
.3 your legs or do you do it more with the
.98 upper body and they start going hmm let
.83 me think about what I owe ya yeah I do
.48 it mostly from the legs now on that next
.67 shot they’re thinking internally they’re
.92 thinking about that advice that they
.17 just gave you now that took them out of
.18 that narrow external focus so the more
.45 you can be in that narrow external focus
.43 the more you can be self – the more
.399 you’re internally focused on some sort
.2 of correction or anything inside the
.3 body the more you are self won so a
.91 narrow external focus is basically can
.42 you focus on a part of the rim right
.19 like can I focus on the back of the rim
.649 or everybody’s different can I focus on
.33 the front of the rim or two inches above
.98 the rim everybody has a different
.57 preference but can I lock in on that
.85 point every time and then just think
.89 about getting it to that spot right just
.14 make the shot that’s a narrow external
.93 focus or think the arc of the ball like
.05 see the arc of the ball through that
.87 process watch it going in through your
.579 mind or another tip that they give is
.74 where where does your body position want
.11 to end up so instead of saying hey I got
.87 to get my elbow above my eye on
.61 follow-through just put it there show it
.91 to yourself think about Steve Nash at
.38 the free-throw line he would dribble and
.06 he would rehearse a shot every time
.56 that’s a great way to get to self – so
.2 maybe in your warm-ups or whatever get
.63 there or maybe if you’re missing some
.24 shots at a timeout
.23 show yourself what you want and take a
.87 vivid image of that so don’t think elbow
.54 above the eye just go through that
.43 motion and just look at yourself right
.88 take notice of where that position is
.92 and now you got to go okay self to knows
.7 I trust self – you got it from here
.149 now you get into a game all of a sudden
.76 we’re externally focused we are self –
.95 we start hitting shots alright so I want
.43 you to keep in mind that yes there’s
.26 times where we’re correcting form but we
.17 always got to get back to self – long
.14 term if we want to be great shooters and
.18 I would definitely advise you guys to
.089 look into that book the inner game of
.55 because I’ve read a lot of sports
.95 psychology books and sports psychology
.08 books a lot of it is just repeating the
.7 same thing over and over and over again
.68 with slightly different stories in each
.81 one the inner game of tennis is very
.269 very different and it’ll change your
.43 whole perspective on how you mentally
.04 approach the game
